Lakeaires Elementary School, ISD 624, White Bear Lake, MN

Marcie Weslock was the lead civil engineer on this redevelopment project with the White Bear Lake school district. The existing Lakeaires Elementary School is in need of a gym addition and new front vestibule. In addition to the building, the site is being redeveloped to enhance circulation between pedestrians, passenger vehicles, buses, and delivery vehicles. New site amenities include a relocated parking lot, reconfiguration of the playground, and implementation of stormwater management facilities. In cooperation with the school district, the design team was able to procure a $19,000 grant from the Blue Community program as part of the Vadnais Lakes Area Watershed Management Organization to fund a raingarden as part of the project. The raingarden is above and beyond the stormwater requirements for the site and will be used as an educational tool to integrate the student body with the community to understand sustainability practices.
